Is SEO Dead In 2018?

“SEO IS DEAD” ~ The cry heard so many times. Perhaps the people who most say this, are those

is SEO Dead?who have tried and unfortunately failed in their search engine optimisation efforts.

Why SEO Isn’t Going Anytime Soon

Think about it – how does Google, Bing and all the rest make money in their search engines? Through paid advertising. And the reason people use these popular search engines is because they provide the best search results.

As long as these search engines continue to provide relevant, useful results – people will use them. And as long as people are using these search engines, people will be clicking on ads – and search engines will make money.

This is why search engines want websites to be optimised (properly) – so they can be included in useful, relevant organic search results. As people know these search engines always provide good results, they will come repeatedly use it in the future, thereby increasing the chances they will click on a paid ad.

Is Paid Search Going To Take Over?

In my view – you can’t compare paid search to organic results.

Organic results allow for frequent exposure to the consumer. You can achieve this with paid ads, but it’s much more costly. Assuming your business offers a product in which the customer/client will need to conduct their own research before contacting you, the more times your website is seen by a relevant consumer, the more likely they are to click on it, and then take action, or contact you.

Paid search ads aren’t getting cheaper. And there’s only so much room for ads on each page.

Don’t get me wrong, paid search is perfect for those who:

  • Have an extended budget; or
  • Offer a low involvement product/solution
  • Have a well designed website (to increase conversions)
  • Very strong sales funnel/team
Even though people obviously click on paid ads, this does not take away from organic search results. People will always clock on natural results. If people simply clicked on paid ads in search results, they’d be severely limiting their options.

Every marketer knows that frequency and reach are important metrics. By being prominently positioned in both paid and organic search results – you will have an better chance of repeatedly reaching a consumer, thereby increasing your chances of the consumer engaging with your offering.

SEO Should Have Died 100 Times Now…According To The Naysayers

People have been saying seo is dead for years. Yet, here we are, in 2018, with SEO continuing to maintain its upward trend.
SEO on an Upward Trend

What You Should Do

Instead of thinking SEO is dead or could be fading out – spend your energy to focus on:

  • Choosing keywords and phrases
  • Optimising content for your chosen phrases
  • Getting your site noticed
  • Gain high quality backlinks
  • Observe your leading competitors website’s
  • Play the waiting game
  • Or hire a professional.

For the foreseeable future, search engine optimisation will continue to play a big role in digital marketing.

  • Local map search optimisation
  • Organic results
  • Inner pages of your site
  • Relevant content and information for searchers
The reality is, people are still using search engines to find what they are looking for, and people are still clicking on organic results – so if your website is visible there, you will benefit.

So, is seo dead? No!

3 Online Marketing Tactics To Try

It’s no secret online marketing will grow a business (when done correctly). Below i have compiled a list of 3 tried, tested and proven online marketing tactics (other than SEO).

Pay Per Click (PPC)

Pay Per Click

PPC advertising, as the name implies, only costs money when someone clicks on you ad. Platforms that offer pay per click include:
  •     Google
  •     Bing
  •     Facebook
  •     LinkedIn
  •     Twitter

Of course, while being pay-per-click, it doesn’t mean only relevant potential customers will be clicking on your ads. In order to limit the amount of worthless clicks, ensure your PPC ads are:
  •     Not misleading
  •     Communicate exactly what you offer
  •     To the point
  •     Targeted to specific demographics that fit your target market

Social Media

Social Media Marketing
Social media is an extremely useful online advertising tool. Not only through it’s targeted paid advertising solutions, but also its organic reach potential.

By using social networks for your business, you are able to connect with current customers, reach new customers and eventually grow an engaged following at your disposal.

However – social media is not as effective for some industries as others. It’s important to identify whether your target market are actually using social media actively, or if they would be interested in following your business.

No matter what, the key to using social media is
  •     Post relevant content and information
  •     Give your followers a reason to engage in your posts
  •     Use it often enough to remain relevant

Some social networks you can use for you business include:
  •     Facebook
  •     Twitter
  •     Google Plus
  •     Pinterest
  •     Instagram

Content Marketing

Writing engaging, relevant content that your target market would find useful is the cornerstone of content marketing.

The idea is that you write content on your website – be it through a blog or article posts.

It must be noted that content marketing takes time to create any effect – and in many cases it wont make an effect. Why? Because some industries just don’t have a substantial part of their target market who would be actively searching content that you would be writing.

In turn, when writing content, ensure that it is something your target market would want to read.

Be Careful

Online marketing is extremely effective when implemented correctly; it can be targeted, cheap and effective. However, simply implementing online marketing tactics is no guarantee of results.

You must understand that for online marketing to work, you need to understand how correctly to use the medium you choose.

Finally, you must set up measures as to how you will implement, track and evaluate your digital marketing efforts if you want to make the most out of your dollar.

Why Online Entrepreneurs Struggle for Market Share

The penny hasn’t dropped yet with most businesses, but as their smaller rivals rush past them to success, they will soon learn that their inferior online presence has left them struggling to maintain market share!

 The "Old Hat" Marketing

Old school promotion is now ‘old hat’. And tragically most companies seek to rectify this situation by ramping things up with more of the same or by thinking they are innovating by investing in an average website that sits and gathers dust. Or maybe they make an effort by glossing their site up a bit without realizing that the game has completely changed. It’s now about fluidity of content that their customers want and need to read and share, and about the movement of their presence online and out into the wider community where the growth and profitability can be most effectively realized.
So in a nutshell, successful companies will become and remain successful by adopting the new paradigm that is centered around communication and linking of content and ideas that serve to actively work for their company. Content and linkage is the new ‘gold standard’ for business. It will be the main driver in the success of those businesses that embrace it.

A companies’ display window is now its website.

The reps and sales team that once knocked on doors to speak to individual customers have now been replaced by ‘information’ displayed on the site that is relevant and interesting to the market audience. The message that a slick salesman once presented face to face can now reach thousands of potential clients in a nano second by its rapid movement between individuals and sites that link to that great content.
Ongoing success of the company is and always will be its relationship with its target audience. The maintenance and fostering of online relationships is now a major online marketing tool for the switched on 21st Century entrepreneur. Repeat business and growth are both fostered through the maintenance of this relationship.
So if you haven’t already done so. Put your best interest at heart and revolutionize your thinking when it comes to the future of your business. There’s a huge market out there that doesn’t even know you exist.
